Moved here in 2007 and have not had much luck with Sac-A-Lait around SA. Choke Canyon has the best looking cover. Been catching some nice Bream on Decker lake, at times. I am not opposed to a little travel (2 hours or less). Maybe my small jig technique that was so successful for me in LA does not work here??? Any in put is appreciated.

kinda far but Granger or Sommerville are two good crappie lakes. True, especially the latter (since I went there a ton while attending A&M). Both are good crappie lakes, though. I also hear that Lake Mexia, Lake Limestone, and Lake Palestine are good, but they may surpass your 2-hour window. You could go up west of Austin to Lake Buchanan as well. Have traveled with my father-in-law (before his Parkinson's hit) many times and did very well on big white crappie in Buchanan. It's between Llano and Burnet, but closer to the latter. Both the Guadalupe and Colorado Rivers carry good crappie as well. Welcome to Texas and good luck, bud.

Like Big Cat said, Buchanan has some slab white crappie and black crappie too. Paradise Point and HiLine piers can be excellent at times and relatively low fishing pressure. You can put in at Rebecca Creek Ramp on the Guadalupe above Canyon Lake and jig all the flooded trees...I have done well there before several times. Those are your closest good bets. Granger is a bit of a drive, but if you are willing to drive there, you might as well head to Somerville...my personal favorite lake for all species! Good Luck!
