You have to aquire the taste for good coffee . If your not a coffee drinker you may have to test several brands before you find one you like . I like mine black with nothing in it . Some people need to doctor them up with creamers and sugar and all kinds of latte stuff . Some are good but that's not coffee . Starbucks is not coffee unless you get the straight black one . I use a BUNN coffee pot , I usually make about 8 cups every morning for me and the wife . Sometimes we go to Dennys' for breakfast and I love their coffee , that's called good ole black diner coffee . Good and hot . Cold yuk !!

water at 202, french press. this is considered the "correct" way to make great coffee. give me a blue porcelain pot, some grounds and some cold water and I can make ya some cowboy coffee that is as good or better. you can start with some of this coffee too, I like the dark roast/espresso roasts mixed about 50/50. http://www.cafebritt.com/gourmet-coffeeget whole bean, a good grinder and go to town.

I use a Chemex pot to make mine. Invented in the 1940s by a scientist. It's a pour-over system and makes great tasting coffee. I start with freshly roasted beans that I grind. I get the beans from a small custom roaster (Rodaks) in FW that has a large selection of beans from around the world and will roast as little as 1 pound for you while you wait (takes about 15 minutes). Marvin will also educate you in everything you want/need to know about making a good cup of coffee.

I use a BUNN. I drink it black, buy the more expensive stuff. Not flavored like some chick drink. I like it hot, but will also drink it lukewarm or cold. I drink a 32 oz Yeti of coffee every day. By the time I finish it is is lukewarm or coldish, but I still like it that way. It's delicious.

If you're using tap water, you may want to try using some different water. Depending where you live, the chlorine and what ever else municipalities put into the water system to "clean it up" doesn't make good coffee or tea.
Where I live, if I use tap water to make tea, when it's done the tea looks like a brown version of chocolate milk. And doesn't taste that great. When I use filtered water I buy at Walmart (5 gallon jug), tea looks and taste great. I don't notice it as much with my coffee, but my dad says he does.

4 or 5 scoops of Seattle's Best #5. Fill the water reservoir. Push the button. Wait impatiently as the nectar of the gods drips into the carafe. Repeat twice daily.

Got to McDonalds and get a cup, they have good black coffee.
I like strong black coffee, I use tap water and I use an old style el cheapo mr coffee coffee pot with folger or generic beans. There is no such thing as perfect, once you quit focusing on perfection your life is much better and easier.

First, grind your own coffee each morning (or whenever it is that you're brewing it). I don't care how well-packed it is, ground coffee from a store just isn't the same as freshly ground beans.
I'm very, very partial to peaberry coffee - Tanzanian seems to be the most common and economical.
As Hop said, HOT water and a French press is the best way to brew it.

I buy coffee from him as well. The Flor Del Rosario he gets from Guatemala and that Panamanian Honey are two of my favorites.

You guys have it down to a science. I use the Dunkin Donuts coffee, already ground. I am not all that picky though. I will drink it black if I'm desperate, with sugar, or with cream and sugar, but never with flavored creamer.

I buy coffee from him as well. The Flor Del Rosario he gets from Guatemala and that Panamanian Honey are two of my favorites. I've bought the coffee wood twice from him and several of the Rodak rubs he sells as well. Right now my favorite coffee is the Ethiopian Sidamo. Grows wild in the mountains and the natives harvest it and dry the beans on the thatched roofs of their huts. Marvin is a great guy and I spend most of my time there just talking to him about coffee or BBQing. He knows a lot about both. TMan and Monte Coon are also customers of his.
