Yes, but my intention was to fish around the outside edges. I would think any crappie under the crates would come out and attack your jig. I did some searching and some crates have much larger holes, almost eliminating getting hung up, or, if you were to become hung up, it should shake loose fairly easily. Another idea was to mount a stack of crates and stick brush or even small PVC through the holes and make a condo. The bottom crate could be used to pile rocks in just before sinking.

So if I grab 5 to 10 chairs and tied them together with 80 pound slab and drop them at the lake. Is that legal? Sorry didn't mean to jack your post Mr Pat you. I have lots of plastic lawn chairs.

I have caught some good fish off of a coffee cup filled with cement hanging from a wire about 3 ft deep before. Wasn't much but the fish loved it.
