Took a few pictures of a nice one, but when I post them, they come out sideways.

How do you rotate them to post correctly

I save all my pictures to my desk top for easy access. Right click the desired picture and then click "open with" on the drop down menu. My drop menu has 3 options for OPEN. Make sure you click "open with" that has a small arrow out at the edge of the drop menu box. Select "Windows Live Photo Gallery" to open it with. Down at the bottom there is a red X, to the left of that X are two curved arrows. Click either one of those arrows and it will rotate the picture. Close the picture and it will be saved in the same spot it was before. That's how I do it.

On my iPhone in photo gallery hold thumb on chosen pic. Some stuff will show at bottom or top depending how you hold your phone. Beside the trash icon is some lines with black dots on them. Touch it and a screen will come up that lets you rotate your pics with the 2 circular arrows. I have to rotate it around and then back to where it was or the picture will be turned a different way after I post it. It's confusing to me too. Maybe someone can help us both with an easier way.

The pictures come out sideways because you took them sideways (or upside down).

Think of your phone like an old 35mm camera. If you hold the camera sideways or upside down, the picture appears that way on the negative. When you get your pictures back from the processor, if it's sideways or upside down you simply turn it right side up. That's what your phone is doing for you. It shows you the picture right side up, but the "negative" (the electronic file) is still sideways or upside down.

When you upload it here, the electronic file is shown in the original format (not turned), just like if you got an envelope of pictures back from the film processor and the one you took sideways would be sideways in the envelope.

All wrong in my experience. Once you take the pic you have to make it a sceenshot/jpg so it will post. After making it a screenshot, it no longer has a bottom and free floats. If it lays down on you when you post, delete it and go back to the screenshot. Tap the slider bars under the screenshot to enter edit mode. See the square looking thingy with arrows around it? Tap it to enter rotate mode. Grab the little pointer under the compass scale and rotate the image only slightly, then click 'Done'. Now the screenshot has a bottom and will post correctly.

I wrote an illustrated guide to this years ago, it should be a sticky.
