 Best way to carry kayak on J hook

Where do you tie off kayak? On actual hook or roof cross bar. Just trying to see what works best.

I tie off on the top and bottom of the j.

Small yak on j rack at lower speed is ok imo. Nothin over 10' at high speed or high winds. Have heard some bad stories about angler yaks on j racks :\
