I would like to think I've had bad luck this last week, but it's probably more my stupidity. I've managed to break two rods in less than a week.

Saturday I took out my 5 weight to a local pond and managed to fling a boogle bug into a tree on my backcast. In an attempt to save a $5 popper I managed to break an Orvis Recon. Monday morning it was USP'sd off to Vermont and arrived today.

Yesterday I took out my 6 weight Echo Carbon XL out to the same pond. I managed to catch 3 small bass and one jumbo sunfish.

I promised my wife I would come home at 4 PM so about 3:50 I stated working my down the bank towards the truck. At 3:59 I hooked a good bass. I was on a slight ledge above the bank. As I got the fish up to the bank I heard a snapping sound and the last two feet or so of my rod tip was broken off. At least I caught the bass. Here is a picture of the bass next to the rod tip.

So anyway I made another trip to the mail store to UPS that rod back to the manufacturer in Washington.

I still have my 3 weight, a Reddington Path 5 wt, and a couple of 8 weights so I can still fish, but I think I might wait a bit before I give it another shot.

Thanks Linecaster. Catching the bass softened the blow somewhat.

I just remembered that I have an old South Bend 8' cheapo rod and reel. Maybe it should be the 3rd one to break.

Not that I'm superstitious or anything. smirk
