I am heading to Lake Buchanan Thursday evening to fish all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning with my best buddies from High School for a bachelor party. None of us have ever fished the lake before. 2 of us are very experienced largemouth anglers, but not stripers. We are wanting to catch a few stripers too, if possible, but we just want to catch some fish. It would be greatly appreciated if you guys could provide any tips, areas, depth, baits, etc. to put us on the right track. Thanks, and tight lines gentleman!

i haven't fished Buc in over 20 yrs. We would trollusing a 3 way swivel. 4ft leader with a deep crank bait and the other was a 2-3 ft leader and some live bait. It worked ok and would manage to pull a few nice ones in the boat. Seems lately like i have seen folks use an Alabama rig with chartreuse or white swim baits. youtube will be your friend for that set up. You could prob use a jet or dipsy diver if you have to get real deep. I dont know if there are still bait shops in the area. There used to be one maybe 2 before you got to the dam. (heading west on 29 coming from 35).

You also may get better luck posting in the striper section. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/forums/4/1/Whites_-_Hybrids_-_Striper

Lots of knowledgeable folks in there that may be able to help more

I don't know if this will help but I went out ten days ago and fished from Rocky Point to Morgan Creek, caught 16 bass in about 4 and a 1/2 hours, midlake from Rocky Point to Morgan Creek. Had 6 keepers with biggest about 4 lbs. Most came on a 4 inch swimbait and some on a Yum craw.

Tx rigs in the bushes along with senkos. Should be plenty of shallow fish around sec points

Be sure to check the wind forecast. That lake gets ROUGH in a hurry. If you launch at llano county park there is a lot of good water to fish where you dont have to try to cross the big water.

Lots of good advice mentioned above. Don't worry about stripers, if you get around any kind of baitfish activity at all from 1-8 foot, the stripers will find you. You can catch them on just about any moving bait that looks like a shad including topwaters, squarebills, spinnerbaits, and chatterbaits.

I run into stripers looking for bass about 90 percent of the time I fish out there.

Yes it is a big lake so if it starts whitecapping the waves can get big on the leeward side. I used to race beach catamarans out there back in the day. Of course the sailors are usually hoping for lots of wind wink

FWIW it's a nice lake with very little boat traffic or crowding in the parks. Most in Austin go to Travis or the like, and most in SA go to Medina or Canyon, so it's underutilized.
