Use a Curado 70 for senkos that has a smaller spool that I fill all the way. Other than that everything else is backed.

Red label is cheap enough i just fill the spool... get two spools normally with one box. Box cost 10.99... great line for the money.

Almost always use a backing no matter which line. Make a long cast, strip off another 30yds or so, and splice into the older backfill stuff. With braid I sometimes just pull off the old line and switch ends. With my wider spool Curado used for cranking with flouro I make sure I have extra main line as I can cast it a lot further but still have some backing on there.

I am too scared I would get a drag puller that took me past that splice... A knot is a weak spot and I'd rather just suck it up for the extra 10 buck of useless line rather than losing a big fish.
I will sometimes backfill a little but with no more than about 10 yards.

Trilene Big Game backfill, I'll try and use enough for whichever bait i'll be throwing (crankbait=more, flipping= less)it will usually be around the same as everyone above typically. I will make sure that even on my longest cast possible I still have around 10 yards within the spool as to where i can't feel it with my finger. I will use an alberto knot with just a few wraps to join the mono and fluoro and I'll give it a couple sprays of KVD line conditioner and let soak in when I'm done.

I use braid as backing, but only 10 to 15 yards, and then fill the rest with whatever line I'm using.
