I've recently built a trailer and trying to decide what would be best to complete it. What do y'all see as the pros/cons of these two besides what I've listed. I have a Native Slayer Propel 10, so it will fit completely on the trailer without anything hanging off the back.

Option 1:
Put plywood on frame and use pool noodles to have the kayak sit on. This option would allow me to actually use it as a trailer when necessary.

Option 2:
Put on pvc, so it's more like a boat trailer. Easier loading/unloading on the water.

Cheap good designs! I like.
One thing to keep in mind. The PVC pipe works great but when you first pull it up on the trailer it can gouge the kayak is you don't put a plug or cover it up some how.

I'm guessing you mean the end of the PVC? If I went the PVC route, I'd probably load/unload it like this.

Plywood doesn't normally hold up well long term in weather.

The trailer would be garage kept with my kayak loaded on it all the time. Does that make a difference?

If it is a Harbor Freight trailer, I would keep the wheels and especially the wheel bearings out of the lake. Put a plywood floor on it and the PVC pipe over the plywood floor.

At the lake, back it up so the trailer wheels are at the edge of the water and the tail end of the trailer is hanging over the water. You can stand on the trailer and pull the kayak to you with a light weight rope tied to the bow handle.

With a plywood floor, you can haul other stuff. If necessary pull the PVC pipe if you need the full floor to transport stuff.

I was kind of thinking about doing what you mentioned, but haven't seen anyone do it (I've looked at a lot of trailers at this point). Get the best of both worlds this way though. I've seen the ends of the pvc cut at a 45 degree angle making the end more of a ramp too to help with the kayak rash. This is probably what I'll end up doing.

If you have the ability to weld you can also talks a boat trailer like this one and alter it to make a nice small kayak trailer.

I'm in the process of cutting this one down right now.

The best can be the one you design. I made this so I can lock up everything. It's quick and convenient to just hook up and go early in the morning.
