Next weekend (weekend of 25th) I'm going fishing with a buddy of mine. Neither of us are hard core fisherman, but we like to take a trip at least once in the Spring and Fall. We typically fish Lewisville, Ray Roberts or Cypress Springs. We normally do ok as far as numbers on Cypress Springs, but may want to try something different for this trip.

Can any of you that are more in the know than we are tell me, what lake is relatively safe to run even if you don't know it, is fishing decent, doesn't have a big tourney that weekend, and is within 2 or 3 hours at the most of the North Dallas area?

Any thoughts/info would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You can hit Cypress and include Bob Sandlin and Monticello while your there. Or, Grapevine has been fishing real well but may not get you far enough away from your 'Spousal Units' if you have them. P_102

Thanks P_102! Lewisville and RR are our spots when we are staying in town. Definitely want to venture away a bit next weekend. We've talked about the benefit of those three being together, however neither of us have been on Monticello and we don't know about running it, and Sandlin we have been on once but really struggled unsure where we could run and just not knowing the lake. It's likely where we end up however.

Wondering about Tyler, Athens or maybe Palestine. Are those lakes relatively safe to run if you don't know them, and are any of them fishing decent right now?

Lake Murray in Oklahoma. Beautiful lake, easy to get around and the added bonus of small mouth bass.

Lake Murray is actually a good idea. That clear water intimates me, but I've been there a few times and really enjoy it. Thanks.

Don, you think this guy RO519 is pulling Gibby's leg about going to Conroe.
Heck yeah, that place will be crawlin with fishermen and tourist. The Bassmaster Classic is that weekend.

You could try Lake Of The Pines you can run it if you stay south, start with Alley creek,Johnson creek, and Hurricane also check out around HWY 726.

If you go let us know how it went.

If it was easy, everyone would do it

PaPa Fork, that's a good idea. I've been on that lake once and remember being able to run the South Side. Good thought. Thanks. Cedar Creek and RC are also good options. Thanks again for the ideas.
