Good question.
We went out on Friday morning and found some small ones in the back of cedron right at day break under birds but like I said they were small and very fragile.
We saw a few ppl with larger 3"-4" shad later and went looking for some ourselves. All we found were in 20' of water or more and couldn't get any with the net.
Once the sun is up where can you catch some?

I caught about 80 shad today between 5 and 14" in less than 3 foot of water.

That's nice. Care to elaborate or do you just want a pat on the back?

Haha sooo sensitive. The "less than 3 foot of water" was elaborating. He could be just as much of a smart butt and say "would you like me to net them for you too" to you as well.

It's very simple once the water starts to warm. More about patterns than specific locations. Windblown shallows at night or mid day when its sunny. Morning and evening and cloudy cool days throw on the first drop off 8'-12'

P.S. shad are more likely to swim away from a boat/net in clear water vs cloudy

Not sensitive at all. The OP asked where to catch shad on Whitney. He said nothing about where or how.
And thank you for some useful info on catching bait. I'm still learning.

He did say where, "less than 3 feet of water". I know its not a GPS location but it is a hint at the pattern. If you expect anything more than that on a public forum you are most likely going to be disappointed. You're welcome for the info and be careful throwing your net on those drop-offs if there is timber around.

Dustyn,

If you are on the south end of the lake it might be better to shoot over to Aquilla real quick. It has a pretty dense shad population.

I will be catching bait on Tues, Wed, and Thursday mornings. Message me your #if you will be out Big D. I can't tell you exactly where they will be now, but I can tell you where I am catching them the day of. They do move a lot this time of year with the small fronts, and wind shifts. For you sculpin... figure it out.

This wind is brutal! Been blowing 15-25 since noon!
