My wife, 2 kids, and I are going to Galveston this week for Spring break. Where should we go for a nice meal? What about a hole in the wall with great food? I'm open to driving around an hour for some good grub. We are staying at Moody Gardens.

Went to the Black Pearl Oyster Bar last year. Kind of a hole in the wall place. We thought it was great.

Fishermans Wharf but the Cruise ship terminal, eat the stuffed pork chop. As good a meal as I ever ate, you'll thank me later.

For a nice seafood at reasonably prices, try Benno's (crab and snapper are good) or Cajun Greek (shrimp is good). Guido's is also good, but much pricier. Shrimp n'Stuff fits the hole in wall criteria: decent fried shrimp at good prices. Very good seafood at Red Snapper Inn in Surfside, about an hour drive southwest from Galveston along the shoreline. If you go there for lunch try the snapper po-boy (only available at lunch and one of the few places I know of that makes their fish po-boy with salt water fish) and the fried [censored] claw appetizer is outstanding. And if you drive to Surfside, go a little farther (inland) to Lake Jackson and check out the Texas Sea Center Aquarium - nice displays of gulf coast sealife and some beautiful prints hanging on the walls, with free admission. Decent German restaurant in center of Lake Jackson with good Euro beer selection.

Guessing I mistakenly hit the "p" key instead of the "b" key in the post above, resulting in the censorship. Intended to type "crab claw appetizer".

Agree and it is a hole-in-the-wall kind of place. Get an order of the Boudin balls.

Stay away from the chain restaurants like bubba gump seafood, cadalliac bar, etc. there are tons of great local places to get great sea food. The gumbo house is fantastic.
