Men, I have been in the military for 11 years now. As a young airman I bought the very expensive Gillette fusions for a couple years and was blowing way too much money. I have to shave Monday through Friday. In 2011 I bought my first safety razor kit for initial purchase of about $150 bucks and spend maybe 40 bucks a year on quality double edge razors. But my razor and brush are starting to fade. I listen to conservative talk radio and hear dollar shave club and harry's razors as monthly subscription all the time. I did the math and I would spend about 180 a year on the harry's. Do any of you have reviews on harry or dollar shave club? I know I will save money sticking with the safety razor, and its a quality shave. But it is an inconvenience on the hurry (which I am quite a bit) any input would be greatly appreciated. Safety razor repurchase or monthly subscription?

Thank you for your service.

I switched to a DE safety razor 4 months ago and have never looked back. I still keep a BIC 5 blade disposable for when I'm in a rush, but if I use a medium aggressive razor and a forgiving blade (Derby, Gillette 7 o'clock) I can still get a fast shave that's good enough for work. I usually forgo the bowl lather and do a face lather.

You can grab a new razor and brush pretty cheap. I think safety razors have gotten a lot more popular the last eleven years. Some of the new artificial brushes are shocking good (and cheap) compared to my badger brushes.

thank you, my DE razor and brush have lasted about 7 years. I was buying feather blades for about 30 bucks a years and in bulk. My razors threads are starting to wear down and my brush is poofed. I need to buy both. but I only hear good things about harry's. I haven't used a multi blade razor in years. I liked the gilletes but not the price. but now harry's seems affordable. I'm torn to re buy my de set or subscribe to harry's or dollar shave

I have a Merkur DE razor. No signs of wear on the threads after at least 5 years.

I've used Harry's for several years. Good quality at a fair price($2 or less depending on qty you buy) with free shipping ($8+ I think). They also have some very good toiletries too (shave gel, shave cream, after shave balm, etc) that are a bit pricey but great quality. I use the foaming shave gel.

Barbasol stinks IMO. Its like shaving with regular soap. Try Foamy regular or scented.

I think you are overthinking it. Safety razor and replace the blade when it gets hard to get a close shave. I shave every other day.

I use a pack of ten SS blades every year or more. I don't really know since it takes so long to use up a pack. You only need a small, about 1 1/4 inch ball of foam to coat your face and make the shave easier. Foamy has lube or softens the hair but it makes shaving easier.
I can get a 2 pack of Foamy to last a long time. I spend about 10 bucks a year to shave.

I went from a fusion back to a wally world 5 blade.

don't remember the cost but it was dam cheap compared to the fusion and the blades last longer.

I shave 4-5 times a week normally, the full 360 chrome dome job.

I use irish spring soap, works for me.

I have to use the single blade bick to hack the whiskers off then follow up with a quality multi blade razor...right now in pretty impressed with the Harry's....but I prefer a safety razor...had one from Duluth trading company that I loved...but I dropped it and broke the head off...I shave about twice a week.

I tried dollar shave club...... FAIL. They suck. I use cheap disposable razor that have 3 blades and are green, I think they are Gillette and I don't use shave cream either, I shave in the shower at the end of shower after briefly scrubbing my face with a hot wet wash cloth = works like a charm, takes about 45 seconds to shave with a mirror in the shower. Follow that up with a quick race around the face with an electric razor to clean up stubble around my mouth and good to go. Haven't used shaving cream regularly for years. It takes a few days, but your face gets used to it and it is super fast and it works. cheers

Started Harrys about 2 months ago and love them. I have always hated shaving, but they make it less of a PITA.

Now before you could buy the good version disposable razors if you looked the the paper or use digital coupons like Kroger has to get a BOGO Free and find them on sale. Could buy quatros, or any of the big names 4-8packs and get two packs for $4-7.
