Moving, Zero Turn or Garden Tractor? #12131932 03/09/17 12:58 AM

I currently have a tiny lot, only 6500sqft. My new house has 1.25 acre, a lot of mowing will need to be done. Right now, I am leaning towards a zero turn, as I imagine it could get the job done in much better time. I do have some concerns about the concrete pad that is already there that I intend to store my boat on. Would be a hell of a lot easier to get it back there on a tractor than my Durango.

What do you think zero turn or lawn tractor?

ZT no question for mowing. Depending on the boat size if your gonna try to use a mower it better be a Jon boat. Anything bigger than aluminum boat and you would need small tractor not really lawn mower.

Yeah I wouldn't use a lawn mower to back the boat in, whether it's a zero turn or a lawn tractor. They transmission in either one is not rated for that type of load.

A ZT is faster and costs more. An LT is slower and costs less. The choice is how much your time is worth.

ZT FTW. Mount a hitch to the front of the durango if it that hard to back it in.

Zero Turn mower and a set of Go Jacks to roll the boat into the parking spot.

Had 10 acres when we lived in Oklahoma. Had to mow about 2 acres.

I liked the lawn tractor. Easier for me to drink beer while mowing. With 1.25 acres you are probably only looking at 40 minutes worth of mowing anyway.

Might get it done in less than 30 with faster zero turn. What is the 10 minutes worth to you?

Personally i enjoy cutting on the mower and drinking a cold one, so i can spare the 10 minutes.

I mow an acre with my 52"ZT. Takes about an hour. I know would take at least 45-hour longer with tractor. Plus mows way better than a tractor will too.

Just in case the above replies haven't convinced you, get a ZT. You won't regret it. I'm on 5.5 acres though I only mow 2 currently. I can easily say my zero-turn mower is the best purchase I've made in quite some time. It's a 60" Kubota diesel and you would have to jog to keep up. I watch my neighbors mowing on their little lawn tractors and can't understand how they do it, inching along at a snail's pace.

Also note - how many lawn crews do you see mowing with lawn tractors versus zero-turns? I don't recall ever seeing a professional use a lawn tractor. Time is money.

I have a Scag Freedom Z and love it. So easy to mow and makes quick work on my 1.25 acre lot especially around trees and landscaping. I have one neighbor behind me I swear it takes him two days to mow his same size yard inching along. I always see him stopping and putting it in reverse and backing up to take another swipe at things. Makes me crazy to watch him mow.

Depends on what you want to spend and shape of yard and obstacles. I have 1.1 acres but bulk of it is rectangular with few obstacles. Also gate is not large enough for zt so plaine lawn tractor for me. Transaxles on most on not strong so you are right about moving boat with one.
