Using 8 lb line on a 1-2 lb fish is silly unless you are just hauling meat. All you're doing is just reeling in a fish. You never even get to fight. Plus the fish has no chance to fight you.
Using 4 lb mono is ideal and your catch ratio will def go up. I might get broke off once a day. So I find no need to use anything heavier unless I'm specifically targeting hybrids. Using lighter line makes your lures more live and gives it more action. Lighter line also allows the live bait to look more like it's alive.
I'll put $200 on the line, more if you like. Just has to be worth my time, for somebody to show me that they can catch just as many with 8 pound mono while I'm using 4 pound. Mini tourney. Are you game Anthony? DFW creeks. I'll even let you pick the creek.

I think its easy to get bad advice on here All joking aside I used to catch the heck outta stocked channel cats in farm ponds when I was up north on hot dogs! Not bad advice. They're not talking Oscar Meyer. We tie two different variations of the jig below, a slow sink, and a fast sink. They are deadly on the sandies during the spawn.

One of the most important things out there is to move around. The fish will bite within the first few casts if they are in that pocket. If they don't, move. Eventually, you will find them.
This really is the most important, fish are all over the creek now. No sense fishing the same hole as 5 other people.

If you want a cliffs note on creek fishing then book a trip with T-FLY and his crews. They are very good at what they do. But if you are stubborn and like to learn from others then its a learning curve. Good luck but always remember its just fishing. You can always pick worm at walmart .

As per the topic of this post, I would have no problem just "reeling in fish."
Getting skunked blows!
...real wisdom when it comes to "fishing," or "catching fish."

Lol everybody on this forum and thread was a noob and a beginner at some point in time. Even some of the guys giving you you advise right now and trying to sell u chit or book a trip. Hot dog, corn dog, chili dog...Doesn't matter. I've been catching most of my fish lately on the [censored] I picked up in the clearance section of Walmart. Just go fish. Don't be afraid to ask questions to the guys doing the catching. Most of the people here are just internet fishermen that don't really hit the water often or just cut and paste chit other people wrote somewhere else. There are so many places to fish, and I'm considering making YouTube videos again and disclosing the spots that I've been fishing and techniques. Spring is near, just get out there and cast. The best time to fish is right around the corner. You don't want to miss out by sitting behind a computer researching barometric pressure, custom lures, and other dumb [censored]. Before you go fishing, open up Google maps or earth. Pick a spot and go fish it. Do this every time you have a chance to go fishing and you'll discover some of your own spots soon enough. Catalog the spots. Keep a journal or log of where you fished, when you fished it, and how you did. By the end of the year, you'll know everything you need to know. If you want to fish with me, just hit me up on here and PM me. I won't charge you, and I won't push my lures on you etc... I'm not a pro, but I've been doing this awhile on landlocked bodies of water and all the way to pelagics. If you feel more confident with a bank guide, then by all means, go for it. Good luck and tight lines my ninja

Lmao. 8lb line. Where's the fun in that besides skiing them in the surface. 4lb line is all you need. Hybrids can't break unless your drag is uber right or you fishing in a wood field or stump. Other then that 4lb. I even use fluro when the creek is super clear. The more natural your bait looks. The more bites you get. 4Lb will outfiah 8lb any day
fishing is one thing. catching is another
