Another advantage to braid is line capacity. I like being able to put a lot of line on my reels and the smaller diameter of braid let's me put more on without sacrificing strength.

I like mono for drifting but prefer braid when using slip corks for channels. The braid floats so it makes for easier hook setting vs mono. When mono sinks, it can get snagged on the bottom and that slack line needs to be taken up before setting the hook.

What he said ^^^^^^^^ I can't get enough 50# Big Game mono on an ABU 6000 to wade out, cast to deeper water, and make it back to the bank with enough line in reserve to feel comfortable targeting bigger fish. To say nothing of the amount of line it takes to use a balloon rig to hit the other side of the cove when the wind is out of the south. Might get enough mono on a 7000 for my situation, but they sell used for more than twice the $30-35 I'll give to pick up a dirty 6000 and dump it in the ultrasonic cleaner. I've got four 6000's and have only found one 7000 for a good price in the last couple years, because the frame was tweaked badly. If I were boating it, of course none of this would be a problem and I'd probably run mono due to the large difference in cost.

But I also want a lot of line for surf fishing for shark. One disadvantage of braid is knot tying. Since it is somewhat "wirelike" it can be a bit annoying when tying certain knots compared to mono. But at the same time, some knots are easier with braid.

Now I hate to be different than Tom. Tom is no doubt one of the best catfishermen in the state. I am saying braid because I mainly fish for channel catfish and I require the sensitivity. Now I did go out with Tom on a guide trip and he did convert me to pro angler rods. So if I were snpmart I probably would just listen to Tom.

Mono only on my catfish rods. I run 25lb Big Game. Tried 40lb braid a few years back and lost big fish after big fish to break-offs. Went back to 25lb mono and that stopped. I do run braid on all my chunk and wind gear for the castability and sensitivity, but for catfishing (hunting big'uns) I like the stretch mono has.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

I go mono on all reels. Never tried braid. Recently caught a 53 lb blue on 12 lb test mono and was pleased with the way it held up under the battle. Since that fish, I have begun using a 25 lb shock leader to help out with the light line. I would rather have some line stretch in these situations rather than running the risk of what a non-stretching line might do. Just my preference for the way I fish.
Rod & Reel PB: Blue Cat 53 lbs/12 lb test, Flathead Cat 78 lbs/20 lb test, Channel Cat 17 lbs 12 lb test, Texas common carp 40 lbs/12 lb test, White crappie 2.8 lbs, Black crappie 2.3 lbs all Lake Conroe
