Power Down your rod and back off the drag. I fish braid 80% of the time, it has more to do with setting up your equipment to handle your line than anything else.

wait, you mean since the braid isn't going to break i shouldn't crank my drag down as tight as it will possibly go? grin

Setup is 7'6" EH rod, 65 lb power pro, 3/4 oz pegged sinker, skirt, and creature bait on a 5/0 Mustad grip pin hook. I'm fishing in thick woody tibmer (lots of submerged tops, logs, and tree trunks)

I try to cross their eyes on the hookset, so maybe i'm tearing to big a hole??

Any help would be appreciated.

Here is what Tommy Martin told me and I believe him.
With the advent of super line braid that has no stretch you need to use a heavy action rod with a softer tip. Using an EH rod and braid you will jerk a larger hole in the fishes lip and if you are not already reeling fast on the hook set the fish will get off due to the split second between the set and reeling pressure. The hook simply falls out of the large hole you just made.
He and a lot of the pros use a long rod but with a lighter tip so it wont rip as large in fishes mouth using braid. Next time you watch a show with pros notice how much their long flipping rods bend on a two pound fish.
I switched to this same setup and rarely lose a fish now on the hook set.
You also don't have to cross their eyes with braid a quick hook set and fast retrieve will get the job done.

Retirement best job ever.

So you're saying, the big one keeps getting away?

You know, I have the same problem.

Learned long ago not only is it a good way to lose fish, it's also a good way to ruin the drag on your reel.....

use NuTech Lure products and eliminate your issues. also, watch their you tube videos, and watch visually what is happening.

There is a place for this bud and here is not it. Move it to plugs and announcements. I highly doubt these lures will change his issue.

hey, since no one said anything about mark mitchell pumping his jig in the thread which flipping jig, just thought it was ok. take it down if you would like, but actually, if this person watched the videos, it will explain why he is hooking bass all over the mouth and losing them.

Nutech uses Trokar hooks and they do have a great hook up ratio, so they just may fix his problem or help anyway. I have used them for a few years and they do a great job. I do not think they will fix all of his problems. I think as stated above he may need a different set up on rod and or line.

With the stuff he is using a Trojan hook won't help a bit. He is ripping a bigger hole than the barb and the hook is coming out. A super sharp hook rips a big hole.
Nice plug though, subtle.

I've had a lot of issues with this the last couple years on Rayburn.

Definitely make sure not to drop slack on the fish. Set the hook in more of a pulling up that a jerk up. If that makes since.

I also will not flip big tungsten weights. I'm currently looking for a slimmer style weight instead of the fat flipping tungsten.

I also switched to flipping big jugs instead of tx rigs. I feel like I might get less bites but anything over 3# will bite the jig. If you're flipping 3/4 tx-rig. Try a 1oz jig.

Each his own but this might help someone.
