So my 80 lb fortrex is having some issues... To start with after a day in some rough & shallow water my fortrex got real stiff. I was having to press really hard on the pedal to steer left/right. I loosened the tension some and that helped a little. Now; however, when I steer right it'll turn about half way and in the foot control I feel a part "pop" and it won't turn any more or it'll just swing all the way right uncontrollably. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I wanted to check here first before I contact Minn Kota. Thanks, Cole.

Sounds like the cable has come loose....could be one of the plastic gears too. I've also seen them get a ball bearing issue after some really rough stuff.

Also could be the shaft retaining screws have backed out a little and getting stuck(ground into) against the outer housing.

Pull the screws on the top cover and take a peak inside. I'm sure it will be obvious. They are super simple to fix. And the parts are cheap direct from MK.

Just opened it up and this is the problem. The cable that controls steering right is loose and jumping out of the plastic part that guides it.

I think I've got the loose cable issue resolved, but the main issue still persists. It is very stiff steering left or right. I have to lean on the pedal and use my body weight to make it turn.

they can be so slightly bent you don't notice it. but that is the first thing that happens when it's
slightly bent.. becomes very hard to turn.

I had same problem for me it was a screw on top part of shaft had got loose and came out. I had to put it back in but it did mess up the shaft
