 When do you give up on a pair of shoes?

My DCs are starting to quack like a duck as the padding is all broken down.
But they still look pretty good
When do you know for sure its time to give up on a pair of shoes?
And what happens to them? Do they go into a painting/lawn mowing/going into the lake phase where you use them for duties you would not subject newer shoes too?
Or do they go from in rotation daily to the trash?

I can wear out the toughest pair of boots in about 8 months. I walk on the outside of my right foot, so the leather rolls over pretty quickly. Once that happens, I trash them and buy a new pair.

If the padding is broken down, discard them. They'll do more harm to your back the longer you keep them.

I've kept a pair of Teva soccer style flip flop/sandals going for 20 years with jb weld plastic bond
The cushioning is still good--it's that top part that will separate from the sole every 5 years or so
Yes: when the sole breaks down on closed toed shoes they get relegated to yard duty/paint the fence/etc

when they are not comfortable.
I wore shoes way too long and that did not fit correctly and at 53 I pay for it every day.
I will not screw with my feet...when your feet hurt chronically it sucks! I have had surgeries on both feet (total of 4). If a shoe makes any part of my foot hurt after a couple hours they are donated to a friend.
Just gave a nice pair of boots to a buddy Saturday for this very reason...I really did not want to give them away - but I know what they do to my feet for three days after I fish in them for one. GONE!
Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

Never...I've got tennis shoes that are 20 yrs old...I just regulate them to yard work detail....
