I just ran into one of the local weathermen on channel 4 , Evan Andrews, at the Kroger and approached him to discuss air pressure changes. I wanted to understand how erratic changes occur. he basically said fronts. he was shocked to learn that 100th of a point change in air pressure really affected the fish . Kind of neat to talk about it with a weatherman, I wanted to learn how to anticipate sharp channges when fronts are not moving in, It seemed to me that he was saying in the Real world, a jump from 29.97 down to 29.95 or up to 29.99 was very minimal. He must not be a fishermen because he didnt seem to be bummed out by a change like this, He actually seemed surprised I was worried about it.. I guess you know you have it bad when you worry more than the weather man lol. For now I will still have to search for patterns to find out why it changes erratically when there is no front.

If the air pressure is 30.50 or higher, you are going to have a hard time even snagging a carp turd. I stay home and I won't even go fishing.

So would a steady pressure of 29.77 would be an okay day of fishing in the creeks Tfly? It's close to the 29.80 range as you say will be a good day but I wasn't really sure because the little points in the pressure make a big difference, So I'm asking for your opinion.

I fished today (03/11) at Eagle Mountain lake, it was at 29.54 .. I had a tough time, just caught two..
Yesterday I did better, the pressure was at 29.92 ..

I just want to check with others to see if this was similar?
Thanks..

Today's tough. Caught 2 as well. That's about it. No more bites after 8:30.

I wish I had this info 2 years ago when I fell in love with crappie fishing. This explains why I got skunked on a few trips. I knew it couldn't have been my lack of knowledge and skills that prevented me from catching fish. LOL!

Jesus said to them, "Children, do you have any fish?" They answered him, "No." He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some." So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. (John 21:5,6)

I thought the fishing would be better yesterday afternoon but with the pressure around 29.63 when I headed to the lake it seemed to shut the big fish bite down some. Got about 13 bites, one 20lb fish and 8 fish between 4-9lbs, one big one broke me off.
Not many big bites though, these were blue cats in shallow water.

Tarponfly- do you go by the pressure or the altimeter? I know they both have to do with pressure but are a little different. The website you listed only lists the altimeter pressure. Is that accurate?

http://mesowest.utah.edu/cgi-bin/droman/meso_base_dyn.cgi?stn=GELT2&unit=0&timetype=LOCAL

This site lists both pressure in & altimeter in.

Well, this morning proved the baro again. 30.50-30.54 and not many fish being caught at all. I managed 1 in 30 mins and left. only people with fish had no more than 6 or so and they had minnows.

erittmueller, it needs to steady out. They will bite with high air pressure but it needs to be stable on most circumstances.

I would like to ask for some of us that go fishing no matter the weather. I work 40 to 60 a week and don't get to choose what day to go based on the pressure.

What species of fish is affect by pressure most?

Do current or river currents change pressure on water ?

If you have multiple days like the summer or even where pressure is bad what do you do? How do you catch
them? There's never perfect conditions

When does pressure not matter ?

My neighbor caught a limit today and yesterday at the creek . He doesn't post on the forum though. I don't know how he doesn't it. I'm going with him this week maybe it's a certain bait deal or live bait.

While pressure has proven (to me) to be a very reliable indicator in shallow water (creeks), you go when you can. It's not the only factor. Very likely your neighbor was fishing with minnows if he limited on a DFW creek yesterday, but nothing trumps being in the right spot at the right time.

**This post was about " why " the fishing is slower. As a weekend fisherman you go when you can. This will just tell you why it is slow. If they are pressure is superhigh above 30.30, I usually always bring minnows. The air pressure was messed up for the last two days but I still took a limit but they took me 5 to 6 hours.

What species of fish is affect by pressure most?

***have noticed most fish 1 foot to 15 foot are usually affected most. Even the salt water anglers/guides pay attention to the barometric air pressure. The only fish I have noticed are super affected our crappies, white bass, and shad, as those are the only fish I can actually see visually through a season. Since I can see them I know what they're doing at all times. I can watch her feeding behavior their movement in their patterns. If you can see these fish, you will notice they're feeding hard every cast. Then all of a sudden they stop dead. You can Freeline a minnow and let the current push it to their face and they will get out of the way and let the minnow pass. That's just the air pressure going up and down.

Do current or river currents change pressure on water ?

** not like your thinking.

** minnows. Or very slow lures.

When does pressure not matter ?

All day in my world.

My neighbor caught a limit today and yesterday at the creek . He doesn't post on the forum though. I don't know how he doesn't it. I'm going with him this week maybe it's a certain bait deal or live bait.

** Have fun. We have been limiting everyday too!
