My wife and I are headed down to the Temple area next week and we plan on fishing Lake Belton. I've never fished that lake but I've read that it has a lot of smallmouth. Anyone have any tips for targeting smallmouth out there? Any largemouth tips would be appreciated too as I'm sure we won't spend the entire weekend just looking for smallmouth. Thanks!

Haven't caught many smallmouths in the last few days but been catching a lot of LM on secondary points. Spinnerbaits, square bills, topwater and soft plastics. The few SM's I've caught were in same area. Hope this helps good luck!

Try the North shoreline across from BLORA (Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area).

Thanks for the tips. What side of the lake is BLORA and Frank's on? I don't see it on a map. What's the water clarity like on Belton?

Franks is on the south side right near the dam. not sure where BLORA is. I grew up on the lake in Belton. I have not fished it in 20 years.

Im third generation from Belton. Fish from Cedar creek to Temple lake park, that is where most of the tournaments are won.

BLORA is on the southwest side midway up the lake from the dam. From the dam up to BLORA can be good for SM on black or black/blue hair jigs off deep points and green POEs (Silent) type cranks. Just up the Leon arm main-lake points and deep pockets can also be good at times.
