Thanks

Politicians, baseball players, high-powered corporate CEO's they all seem to eventually let us down. Nature, however, does not. Look to her for inspiration and you will learn the secrets to living a good life. The most Important lesson it would seem is to make sure you spend as much time fishing as anything else.

Went up past the first set of rapids to the upper set today. Had 4 people fishing minnows. Had 23 whites, 2 stripers around 20 inches, and a 20" flathead by noon. The stripers where a real surprise. Great day on the lake. As someone else already said, the water is swift and high, was able to motor through the rapids with 4 people in my boat. That's night and day from a few weeks ago.

Thanks for this information. I am thinking of taking my fish and ski into the river area this weekend. However due to the dicey nature of the ramp traction I will probably use the Crane's Mill ramp or some other main lake ramp and then head into the river from there.

So for a typical 19' fish and ski fiberglass hull boat with a 150 outboard will I be OK navigating into the river from the lake? I'll go slow and easy of course. I also have a 14' Jon boat with a 25 HP outboard at my disposal but would prefer to take the fish and ski if I can.

You'll be okay up to the first rapids if you're cautious, but passing through the rapids or even getting close might be a problem. The Jon would be better at the little bit shallower water and gravel bars. I'm hoping to go Thursday or Friday in my 14 ft jon.

According to forecast, better hit the water at daylight to keep from getting wet. 100% rain chance starting noon to 2pm Saturday. Chance of rain most of next week also.

Don't understand your question. What island? I've been to the rapids many times and even to second set of rapids. Can't remember ever seeing an island. The rapids this year are fairly easy to pass since water is high. Though I don't see any reason to go past the rapids since there are plenty of fish below them. When the bite is on, of course.

I think what you are referring to is the gravel bar. It is what is the first rapids this year because of the high water. It's about half a mile past the big red roofed house. If you pass them, you will go about a third of a mile up to the second rapids. Last time I saw them, there was NO WAY you were boating up past them. If the water is still up, be careful of the current. it's real strong. texas

Several years ago I watched in disbelief as some guy(s) in a ski boat went wide open throttle through the rapids staying close to the bank on the deeper side and ran through with no regard to if there were boats kayaks or people fishing.
As fast as he was going there is no way he could have stopped in time or even see who or what was up ahead.
If you hear a boat coming fast, keep your head on a swivel as people do some strange things on that river.
Unless the guy is dead, in jail, or moved, he is probably still around and will do the same stunt again.

Perhaps the island you see and refer to on google maps is the one at Cordova bend, the only one I know about. It is two miles upriver from the river mouth at Cranes mill. To get to the rapids you need to go upriver a lot further, 8.5 miles further actually.
