I see on here most guides use 2 oz. no roll sinkers. I have been using 1 oz. and have had no problems keeping them on bottom. I have fished these from 25 to 35 foot deep. Is it that they are going a lot deeper or just like it to drag harder. What is the purpose of going heavier.

If the boat is rock solid and not moving, the 1 oz egg sinkers will hold still in the mud. If you don't have a solid anchor and the boat is moving, you will need heavier sinkers that are less likely to move like no rolls.

I use 3 oz barrel sinkers or no snag sinkers when I drift so I can drift faster and still keep the baits down where I want them. The lighter weights will allow the baits to be pulled farther off of the bottom than the heavier ones. I only use no rolls when I am anchored.

I have used 1oz before while drifting and I noticed that with a good wind where my boat is pushing .8 to 1 mph even with two drift socks that the weight is not bumping the bottom like Txmedic stated. I use 1 1/2 oz and 2 oz no rolls and even if I drift that fast my weights are still bumping bottom where the 1 oz would not have. I also encountered lines crossing and tangling with the 1oz because they were more trolling thru the water than bumping the bottom like they should have.
