Is it really that stumpy up north? Navionics app doesn't show that much flooded timber but I've been told it is worse than fork in the north end of the lake. If that's the case I'm staying South. Any alternative ideas?

Once you get north of the 155 bridge you start seeing timber. Once you get to the Villages it gets really thick. The east shoreline is fairly clear but west and north is dangerous territory with some stumps just under the water. If you're wanting to fish Kickapoo there is a ramp at the 315 bridge but at low water may not be usable. Even launching there it's idle only unless you know the area. There is always Highsaw and Ledbetter creeks to fish and are easier to fish, Saline bay is a large area with very little timber and lots of boat docks. If you're anxious about fishing stumpy water then yeah, stay south. Take a ride up 315 and you'll get a good view of Flat creek and Kickapoo creek and see what you're up against. Fish love the stumps and I love the fish so that's where I go. Good luck.

Not only are there stumps, they don't like fiberglass. Very hard edged stumps up there. I've won 2 tournaments up there and both times needed fiberglass work done.

Better have good insurance because you will need it. Most of the money I've won in tournaments has gone to paying my deductible at the fiberglass shop. The fish are there but there will be a price to pay.

Can confirm, prefishing for a tournament last fall took on some damage in the back of flat, and no winnings to help pay , at least my deductible isnt very high

Watch for the sandbars if you run the east bank. Stumps are a problem but you can run up on a sandbar real quick. I promise there are a few on this forum who have done it!

You can get away with a lot more right now since the lake is full. Back when Palestine dropped to almost 8' low a lot of timber rotted and broke off shorter so now when it drops to 1' low the majority of stumps start becoming a much bigger issue. Even full there is still a couple of sandbars that will get you on the east bank.

Yes, it really is that stumpy. There are areas of the lake I won't go to even if I hear 8 pounders are jumping in the boat. The back of Flat Creek, the Neches, idling around the island on the high line up north...I'm having a panic attack just thinking about it!
We fished Kickapoo in the wind one day about five or six years ago. The water level was perfect for the stumps to be just below the surface. It seemed like as soon as we got off one stump we got on another one within six feet. I couldn't really even fish...it was that bad. Trying to get out I idled over a stump, dropped down off it, and immediately hit another one at the bow. Looking around, there were stumps to the left and the right and it occurred to me that I might end up leaving my boat there. We finally got out, but not until after I got so frustrated and used so many bad words that I decided I wasn't going back.

Got stuck on one while we were idling out that high-centered the back of the boat just right. The prop was out of the water. If it hadn't been windy as hell we wouldn't have gotten it off without getting really cold and wet.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I do have good insurance but this is only the 3rd time on the water with the new boat so I'm going to continue to avoid that first scratch like the plague. Thanks again and good luck if you get out this weekend!

Nice pictures, that's really not that bad, most of the sloughs off the red river is worse than that, not saying I would run on plane but I wouldn't be afraid to idle at full pool!
