I bought a Nema 2000 starter kit and one extra T connector. I have two HDS Gen 2 touch units connected to a single point 1. You will have to tell each unit to read the point 1 instead of the internal GPS. If you have your Point 1 puck on the stern it's better to have the bow unit use it's local GPS and the console use the Point 1 GPS. That way when you drop a waypoint while idling over structure, then turn around and jump on the trolling motor to fish it, you will narrow the error between the 2 units. If you don't and you have a 20 ft. boat, your always going to have to compensate for the length of your boat when approaching waypoints because the unit you are looking at is using a GPS source 20 feet behind you. Im wanting the point 1 on the bow. This is what I am trying to correct. I have heading up on my gps charts when im fishing a brush pile and I drift back any,it thinks im going a different direction and moves my waypoint. drives me nuts. so if I use the internal gps at the console to mark a spot then I should be able to put the bow on that spot when I come back with trolling motor and not be off 20 feet. I think. lol

The point 1 primary focus is to be used as a heading sensor. Don't put the point 1 at the bow because you can get electrical interference from the trolling motor and it does not get a better epe than the internal antenna does. If you want to put the point 1 by the transom transducer, then that is fine. As long as you check for electrical interference first.

Thanks for the input. I watched a video explaining installation so it makes a little more sense. If I upgrade I will when I get another newer unit up front. The thing I don't get is, it makes sense what you said about having the unit up front on its own GPS, but if the GPS in the units is that good, then why not just run both units on their own GPS settings ? My Gen2 Console unit loses GPS when on pad and also during rough water. I have been told the point-1 would fix that. I am doubting that will cure the problem.

If you lose gps then most likely your antenna connector is loose, seems to have been a problem with quite a few of them. If this is the case with yours, then yes a point 1 would fix that. Or you could take the graph apart and make sure the connector is tight.

There is an iPhone app to check for interference, works great and free.
