Hey gang! As promised, here is the Piscifun Sword reel review! Overall, we are very impressed with this reel and can't wait to take it to Cocodrie, LA for serious field testing on reds! Stay tuned that one!! A little about the company and reel. Piscifun ( www.piscifun.com) was started in 2013 by two high school buddies, Ben and Peter. Both men are avid anglers and feel the importance of family, hence the company slogan "Go with family". Even though a young company, on its first anniversary in 2014 they had sold 80,000 units, 2015 - 150,000 units and 2016 - 380,000 units; they are growing and making a name for themselves in the fishing community. Piscifun product development is based on angler's needs with extreme focus on design and development. They are also committed to rapid and flexible product updates so, as needs change so do they. The Sword series fly reel has an overall appearance that is sweet! The CNC hallow design makes the reel light, we reviewed the 9/10 reel that weighs in at 6.7 oz. The reel is machined from 6061-T6 aluminum alloy; this type of anodized aluminum is the standard for surface oxidation of automobiles (rust proof), only requires to be rinsed with freshwater. The multi-disc cork and stainless drag system is very nice and comes with a large drag knob for easy adjustments. The spool is a medium to almost large arbor which will reduce line memory and facilitates quick like pick up. Lastly, the reel is fairly easy to switch from left to right retrieve; however will require a small screw driver to pop the metal ring to flip the clutch bearing. Let us know if you have any questions. Check out the video (apologies, we thought we would get cleaver and try using two cameras, still working on how to really do it right, lol

Oh, now I get it, I can be slow at times. Yes there is a clicker on the drag but, it isn't too terribly noticeable. Thank you Kurt on the comments. We are both extremely excited about our Louisiana trip, for many reasons!

Not quite following the question Toddddd.
The clutch gear is actually inside the spool behind a snap ring that is very easy to pop out with a small screwdriver or knife; once you take out the snap ring, you can flip the clutch gear around, put it back in, then put the snap ring back. Typically, well, all other reels we have, the clutch gear is on the reel, not the spool.
If you have the reel configured for a right handed caster, then the winding knob will be on the left side and the drag knob is on the right; standard configuration.
If you live near the DFW area, we would be more than happy to meet so you can throw it and check out the reel. We will be field testing the heck out of this reel and a subsequent review after we get back from Louisiana. I can tell you, we have shown this reel to several guys we fish with and they all seem very impressed with how solid, precise, smooth and light this reel really is in person.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Let me know if you have any other questions. About the drag, I read some reviews on a fly fishing forum saying drag knob moves easily. Does the drag knob stay put I really do like the look/price of the sword but don't need touchy drag that reset's itself.... Would the positive drag click spring make it hold better? What do you think if they add one more firm spring?
Why so complicated?

OliverBassin,
I have no question about how solid this drag system is on this reel! The drag knob held position the entire time fishing in Louisiana, no random change or surprises. The drag system is smooth and seamless. Don't see any need to make any changes to the reel at all. Nick and I both ran 20+ pound fish into the backing multiple times and the Sword reel met the challenge.
Personally, Nick and I are sold on the Sword reel and given the performance, quality and price point; it's a recommended buy.
Tight lines.

I'm a novice at fly fishing and my first reel and rod combo left a lot to be desired. I recently bought one of those reels in a 5wt. and the price was one reason I gave it a try, and I'm totally impressed with the reel. That reel gives me a whole new view of fly fishing and the reel is high quality and silky smooth.
Just one more cast!
