I did an experiment with punch bait on Lake Somerville when I first tried it, a couple years ago. Anchored and cast out different rods with shrimp, fresh shad, worms, and punch bait. I couldn't set the punch bait rod down long enough to give the other baits much of a try, as it was always being hit by cats. If they are in the area, punch bait will let you know, as they will definitely hit it. And if they are in the area, you won't have time, or enough hands, to fish more than one rod! I don't catch big cats on it (cut shad is better) but I definitely fill the stringer with it. That's been my experience over the years.
