I'm a huge fan of the Phenix Maxim. My next rod though is probably a Dobyns Fury rods just to compare the 2 and go from there.

If you are getting an SX, get a vendetta rod. Color matches perfect. I use a M for my square bill cranking rod.

But if you get on Amazon the STX is only $120 worth it for the added friction drag controlX

H2O Ethos Nano. I like the 7'MH action. I've returned two year old broken ones with no receipt on more than one occasion, exchange from Academy no questions asked, even after telling them how old it was. To me it's the best bet for a rod, at some point they all break or have a guide insert fall out, etc. And it performs very good for $100.

Some that I have under consideration at this price point are Dobyns Fury and 13 Fishing Fate Black

Just got around to reading all these responses...thanks a ton for all the advice! I will be researching all of these as I anxiously await that tax return.

Just my 2 cents but the sx is too high of speed for cranks.
I would use a winch or get a round abu sweeden reel.
For rods the St Croix MOJO bass crank is the best in my opinion for the price.
I also have many MOJO rods and love them.

The new BucooSR Rod is made in China so if you can get an original Bucoo I agree.

If purchasing a rod for under $100 I would purchase from academy. Can't beat their warranty program.. rod breaks (no matter the reason) you take it back and pick a new one. No questions asked.

Bucoo is a little more than $100 if I remember correctly but well worth the value. The Abu Veritas is a good all around rod in that range. I am sure like mentioned above there are some Academy and Bass Pro brands that are great values as well. SX on a Bucco is a legit quality combo.
