Some of you may remember that back in 2014, my son and I (and two others) were kayak fishing the lower Pecos when we got hit by a 500-year flood that took our boats and most of our equipment. We ended up climbing up out of the river canyon and getting helicoptered off. This last June, after two years, we went back for another try at the 60-mile route, and I wrote a series of stories about that return. This river is IMO the most remote and beautiful in Texas and one of the last real adventures a person can have in the Lone Star state, which is probably why we keep going back despite the logistic hardships that the Lower Pecos presents paddlers.

Here are the hyperlinks to my stories of our return. I hope you enjoy them...

Great article. I've done a week at the Boundary Waters and I've always wanted to make that trip on the Pecos. Most beautiful river in Texas.

That's probably the greatest adventure opportunity in the state of Texas. I understand why you would go back. Even a bad experience there is still a good experience.

Well put, Gusick. The experience is well worth the work.
