When you tighten transom ratchet straps from your boat to the trailer, then your boat and trailer are effectively one unit. There is no extra transmission of energy through the old school stick types. They simply tie everything together so that the transom does not serve as a fulcrum.
Think about raising your motor to trailer level--roughly 45 degrees. Now get up on the prop and jump up and down. Which type of unit will result in less movement of the motor at the fulcrum point--less flex of the transom? You'll find your answer there.
Use what you want.

Pro-Rule, but I will admit it seemed odd at first not having the sticks attached to the trailer. Steering clips take about 15 seconds to install.

Use what you want. I will respectfully disagree. Those straps do not absorb the road vibrations. Those same straps have stretch in them and no way to "lock" down a boat on a trailer with them where there is not some movement. Like you said though everyone should use what they want.

Ask your boat manufacturer which one you need. They'll tell you that you don't need one at all. The transom was built to withstand more than what will be passed from the road. Therefore, pick which ever one that you prefer as it is more for your peace of mind that the boat
