I've never been to the Sabine. I have a 18ft blue wave center console w/90hp and a 14 ft Jon boat with a small motor and trolling motor on it. Would a bigger boat be ok on the river or would it better to stick with the Jon boat.

Plenty of glass boats on the river, but you will be somewhat limited to fishing the river. At times the best bite can be in the feeder creeks where the smaller rig will pay off in spades. I've seen everything from yaks to 22' CC's to 21' Bass Rigs in that river, even a few pontoons. River conditions also play a huge role. It's now down to less than 10' on the Beckville gauge, but was over 23' just less than two weeks ago. A week before it crested at 23' it was less than 10'.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

I'm new to east Texas and live between Tyler and Longview,My wife just got out of the hospital and recovered pretty well so I'm looking to get some fishing in. I visited the Neches in Chandler yesterday and it is easy to access, Are there bank fishing areas around longview?

Me and a buddy made the drive from the Rockwall area to fish today. Go to the ramp about 8:00. Didn't make the first cast until 9:00. Manage to catch 94 SB, 2 crappie and 2 Gaspergou. Fished until 1:00ish. My first time down there. Thanks TK for the pointers.
Good Fishing To Ya, Ruben

Just got back from River Ridge. Fished yesterday and this morning. Caught 2 limits of white bass yesterday and caught 18 this morning fishing from the sand bar at River Ridge ramp. About half were females with eggs. We had a couple that pushed 3 lbs. We were using crawfish crank baits, chartreuse with black backs.

Caught 50 in 2 hours yesterday at the 79 bridge, mostly females with some bucks mixed in. Trolling quarter ounce roadrunners in chartreuse. Saw Troy King at the ramp! How did y'all do Troy? Was good to see you and your boy! Wish we had more time... Going back now, tight lines!!

Robert,
Would you share a bit about your setup on the fly rod? specifically the flies you like (clouser minnows or just any streamer??), and then your leader. I've brought my fly rod with me the past 2 years on the Neches but never used because the neches is so tight. I'll be hitting the Sabine before too long and plan on hooking up with the fly rod this time. I was just going to tie my own 14/10/8 leaders. What do you think? I have a couple of chartreuse and white clouser minnows as well as plenty of big wooly buggers.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Tight lines!

Hey Alan it was good to see you to...Tuesday was my son's 14th birthday and it was his wish to sandbass fish with his little brother and cousin...so to say the least I had my hands full...we only had six fish in the couple of hours time we had.
