I've been looking at properties on Lake Worth. I've never fished it. The wife and I like the location and it vicinity to things, not to mention being on the water. It also is one of the few lakes that allow docks. Any advice or knowledge of it would be appreciated. Anyone know if there is any hunting allowed on it?

Fishing is great out there, centrally located to good schools, shopping and business areas plus its definitly growing and getting cleaned up well.
I fish out there quite a bit and from all the homeowners I have talked to they alllove it. Most if not all are very friendly and will strike up a conversation when fishing their docks and such> I have yet to have any issues while fishing out there from anyone. Neat little lake with some offbeat history.

I used to live in Springtown, and Lake Worth used to have signs all over it saying "Do not Eat the Fish". So I would assume it was from the Naval Air station there.. maybe they dumped some sort of chemicals?

It is a good lake to fish, but you can't eat anything-look on the TPWD site for info.

Thanks guys,

As much as I want to live on a lake especially with the way the neighborhoods seem to be shaping up. I would, however, have a hard time returning everything I catch. There's nothing like fresh fried slabs. But I will not take chances with the "no consumption" rules.

I'm going to have to think real hard about living there. Thanks for the advice guys.

Try Eagle Mountain as an alternative. Grandfather lived there for 10 years on the north end. I always caught decent bass off the dock.

So if you want something for the frying pan just hit another lake that day.
From what you said it seems like the one drawback (no consumption of the fish) is far outweighted by the pluses.

I fish Lake Worth often - I live near it but don't live on it. One thing that could be a concern for some folks is the noise from aircraft, especially the jets that practice from the NASJRB on the west side. North of 820 might not be so bad but south of 820 can be pretty noisy, especially in the area across from the runway. Also, they test engines on the ground at times and I can hear that roar at my house about 5 miles away. Just something to be aware of and consider.

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

I heard they lifted the consumption ban on Lake Worth. I looked it up in the regulation booklet and Lake Worth was not listed in the section on fish consumption bans. Enjoy your filets.

I work at the base and you dont want to no whats in the water...And you definately dont want to no what lockheed might dump in there.. They have been wanting to dredge the lake for years but from what i hear, lockheed doesnt want them to for fear of "public concern" if you no what im sayin.

i was raised in lake worth and i lived on the lake and it was awesome. Yes it can be loud but u know what so can any place. The fishing here really is picking up and the economy is booming
If u can get on the lake on the west end it really is peaceful and there is lots of foilage and some timber. And just a short boat drive is the marina and crappie are on fire right now. And as far as i know the "NO COSUMPTION" band has been lifted.
