Hey dmr183, were they still wanting red on your jerk bait/crank-bait with the cooler temps? And how about your c-rig, were they biting a lizard or some other soft plastic. I fished this lake only once and that several years ago in March. Greenpumpkin and watermelon were the dominant colors for me then but that was later in the season. Headed down there on Monday. Hopefully they will have moved up some with the warmer temps.

Egly bone colored jerk bait, chartreuse/blue back 6 xd. Plastic color doesn't seem to matter, on the C-rig, I've been sticking to green pumpkin, watermelon red, falcon lake craw colored baby brush hogs and I dip all tails in chartreuse. Only key I have found is rock is where I'm getting bit. Rocky bank for Jerkbaits, and the point I found has a really rocky bottom, or pods of chunky rock on it. When I feel the rock, I get ready for a bite. Weird thing is, when I found this spot a couple months ago, my first 2 bites were a 4 and 3lber, since then it's all small fish. I need to find more rock on the lake.

1 more thing, I'm probably not the one to ask for advice, I'm not catching anything to write home about, just happy to be getting a few bites when I go. I'm sure there is someone out there catching them good! I recently moved here and have only fished the lake 5 times..

Thanks dmr183. This helps in what to pack. I will add bone to my color pattern.

TPWD claimed south shore ramp to be repaired in 2017. Be surprised if it Really Happens. Man I sure do hope so, much easier to make a Dairy Queen lunch trip in the heat of the day from a South Shore launch.

Just one more cast!

From what I was told, the sand under the ramp had washed out and it was kind of hollow underneath. If a person looks at the Calliham ramp they will see where circles where bored into the concrete and they pumped some kind of expandable stuff under it. I'm guessing they will do the same thing to south shore.
I sure wish the lake would come up about 20'.

I have the opinion that the south shore ramp was not constructed to withstand those cold fronts, that blow right into that ramp. It washed out from underneath and caved in on northwest side. Years ago they constructed a Handicap sidewalk ramp to a floating fishing platform it was nice. First cold front slammed it and washed to the other bank. It never got replaced tax payer money wasted. They should relocate ramp so the cold fronts don't destroy again. I guess fixing what is there is better than nothing, but i'm not holding my breath

You are prob right sir! Was it a flood that wiped out the fishing pier or a cold front? Seems like it was a flood, but it's been a long time (sad to say). I never could figure out why they didn't extend the east ramps at south shore, they were always protected from the north wind and sure were better to load on during a front.

I once saw a guy get washed onto the ramp at south shore in a norther. Waves picked him right up off the trailer and set him on the ramp. I think he was able to get off. I guess he either didn't know the east ramp was there, or didn't want to wait.
Another norther in maybe March I speared a wave about telephone pole point headed to possum. Wasn't that much water but damn I was cold and wet the rest of the day.
Yet another one I fished a tourney and idled all the way to the spillway in 30-40 mph winds. It took awhile to get there.

Lol, before I had a gps graph I launched at south shore in a very thick fog early one morning. I was heading to 4 fingers and I fast idled for what felt like an hour, finally reached the spillway and knew I needed to head a bit more North West. So here I go again idling for what felt like another hour. Finally saw land and for the life of me I couldn't recognize exactly where I was at in Four Fingers. Fog finally started to lift and I realized that I was at Naylors pond! I went and bought a gps after that.

Damn that's a lot of idling. Was there any fishing time left in the day after all that?
