Anyone ask about Smallmouth stocking for Roberts?

Some people go to church and think about fishing. Some go fishing and think about God.

1% to 3% Success rate? Seems more like a 99% to 97% failure rate...

Fishing in not a matter of life and death
Its much more serious than that.

Had to have been an awful lot of them!!! There had to be some natural progression from Texoma over time as well, RIGHT?

Why would they need to restock the lake right now? IMO the lake has been fishing awesome the last 2 years, plus we had bushes in the water all the way through the spawn last year.. the amount of fry in the water was insane, and they were able to hide from the sand bass.

I'm a fan of TPWD, IMO they have done and will continue to do a great job managing our fisheries. I think we just get a little spoiled here in Texas, go to some other states or talk with some professionals to travel the entire country and ask them about fisheries management and what states do it right.

Thanks for posting Mark!

I know of two guys who would go to Texoma and keep there limit of small mouth then come back to Buck Creek and let them go.

Which is illegal but I'm sure they already knew that

The declined his help, drove out to the center of the lake and dumped them there. Dannie said they basically fed the sandbass. So if that's their method of stocking, I don't see that helping

No, that's not their method of stocking. According to TPWD's fish stocking procedures manual, largemouth bass "Fry and fingerlings should be stocked from a boat into the best available inshore habitat (vegetated areas are preferred)."

While you're at it, some of you should get a petition together complaining about Mother Nature's success rate. For largemouth bass: "From 2000 to 12,000 eggs hatch from the typical nest, and of all these only 5 - 10 are likely to survive to reach 10 inches in length.

You can have all the bass spawn you want but if no available habitat exists for the fry to survive for a year, you're feeding perch, white bass, etc. Rayburn prime example last 3 years. Very high all year and the lake exploded with fish.
