Heard of that before but never seen it in person.

Chris, a really good video.

There is a video of a man fishing Lake Raven down near Huntsville a few years ago, standard stuff thinking he would stick to fishing in the heavy vegetation on that lake back then, then the bass boiled up in deeper water where he could see them and he took off . . . he couldn't cast too fast as they bit everything he tossed.

A friend and I were fishing on Wheeler Branch two years ago where they are known to boil up at times, especially in the afternoons, we saw two large circles of bass maybe 50 or more feet wide, each of them holding tons of fish breaking the surface . . . chasing bait fish.

Bill Wilcox of Honey Hole fame would fish Wheeler Branch later at some point and in his comments at the end of the video, he said that clear water lakes often cause bass to be more "sight oriented" hunters and I believe he said this results in them schooling up.

Makes sense.

Brad

Awesome video, thanks for posting.

Chris B and I experienced this on Texoma a few years ago, largemouth were schooling in the back of the creeks in 49 - 51 degree water.

Absolutely! The thing that surprised me most is these bass where aggressive enough to break the surface busting schools of shad!! The what temp was 47 degrees! At one point while filming this video these bass got so aggressive busting shad on the surface I was thinking in the back of my mind I could probably catch em on a popper or a spooke. (I didn't have any top water lures in the boat!) I have heard Charlie Hartley and a few other anglers talk about bass being that aggressive in the middle of winter and he would catch em on a tiny torpedoe back in the day. Super glad I got to experience this in person!

Jerk baits are just an amazing tool to catch bass all year around. I tend to throw hard jerk baits in the winter and soft jerk baits. (Like flukes) in the warmer months!

That first area you showed is where I have caught my biggest fish to date........just haven't fished it in a while.

I know what your talking about. Back in the day there used to be some really large schooling bass about this time of year especially in that area on Fork. Haven't seen that happen in quite a while but I am not on the lake all of the time like I used to so I don't see a lot of things I used to.

I m glad these videos are helping! I will add, when we have these mild winters I will sometimes throw a soft jerk in these shallow coves just dew to the fact that some of theses coves are still so chocked out you can't fish a hard jerk bait threw it.
