I am from MN too and last year we were down around mid March and it was freezing out. This year we decided to go a few weeks later (april 8th) and it looks like its going to be 90 degrees by that time. You just never know man.

Got the warm clothes packed. But fishing in 50 isn't that bad. Im usually out early spring and late fall fishing in temps in the 20s and 30s.

Front is not suppose to be bad and is suppose to stall just south of the area with lingering clouds.and chance for showers. This winter those have been pretty good days. Anyway the big girls like it right after the front on fork. Right now it seems the fish are already moving up and there is some size to them, finally. I have caught some solid fish on traps over grass in 1-3 fow. You may be hitting it just right. Btw had 30 fish day on Monticello a couple weeks ago all super fat in the 3-5 lb range. Even sight fished for bedding bass that day. You should do well on either lake. Tell us how you do!

Post frontal on Fork can be brutal. Might check the generating schedules for Monticello and Welsh. They don't generate like they used to. We have had a spring like winter so far which may slow generating even more.

Monticello has been the scene of a lot of youtube sensations recently with good catches at the discharge as well as around the rest of the lake. Welsh has it's fair share as well, but Monticello would prob be a little more popular.

Either way, it will be a great trip! Where will you be staying at? Eating at Veronas has some good Italian food, the restaurant/tackle shop/gas station just outside the lake fork marina is good too...there are also some good places in Emory and Quitman...make sure to check out Lake Fork Trophy Lures in Emory, they are all real nice and have a great selection of baits/lures...even though your guide is going to provide you with all the stuff, it is a chance to have maybe a little something to take home from your trip.

Heck if you want to fish at night hit up Paul
His best 5 fish the other night was 40 lbs.
He is catching giant bass at night on Fork and he is very reasonable

There is a great chance that the front will position the biguns right where I want them.
