I have group 27 continentals. 36v Fortrex. I think I need new ones. According to the sticker they're 38 months old. Last 2 days I fished they were about toast by noon.

I'm going on 4 years with one boat. The other has new batteries. The old one is well maintained. ...as in fully charged as soon as it leaves the water and always connected to a charger/maintainer. Also the water levels are checked monthly.

As for how long they will last? Who knows. Probably not much longer than 4-5 years.

I had a set of Trojan 225's in my old boat that lasted just over 5 years. On my new to me boat, the set of Walmart series 27 Everstart have been in there since I owned the boat (2 years) and I'm not sure really how old they are.

Well, I didn't maintain the water levels like I should. That's for sure.

Steez, you fish several times a week, yes? If you only fish 2-3 times a month, do they still need to be checked monthly for water?

Just replaced two 27-Continental that went a little over 5 years and done but I was glad to get 5 years, usually 3 years maybe 4 is good enough for me.

I change them out at 3 years rather they go bad or not. Just do not want to fool with swapping one here or there as they go bad. I fish enough to where I get my money's worth in that 3 years.

This. I do not fish tourneys, but absolutely do not want to have a perfectly good fun fishing day spoiled by battery issues. I replace every 3 years.

Do you check water regularly, or just fish 3 years and replace?

I feel lucky if I can make it 4 years on a set of batteries. It's usually closer to 3 to 3.5.

Water needs added probably every 18months or so. I check mine about every 4-5 months. Make sure you are using only distilled water when adding.
