I'm a school superintendent in North Texas. When I look at the high school bass teams that exist, I'm not sure they are sustainable for the smaller districts. I constantly see schools looking for boat captains to assist with tournaments and the need for boats just to practice seems like a challenge. I would like to start a kayak bass team and start putting together a few tournaments in the early fall each year. Is there any interest out there to get involved? My thought is to have five person teams and run it on total inches for the team, etc. Any thoughts or ideas are welcome.

There is talk about it, and there are interests. I have talked to Cody Carpenter and Jay Pershin who are both High School coaches that have been trying to get something started. If you guys want to plan a meeting and hopefully we can get something down in writing to get the ball started.

The 2 barriers that have to be addressed are: Safety/Insurance and Kayaks...Safety can be addressed with Safety boats that patrol general areas where anglers are fishing and PFD...Cost to get started I wish a kayak manufactor could come up with a fishing kayak in the $300 range 12' that could get kids started with bigger payoff for Manufacture when they get adults easy to fundraise and buy 10 $300 kayaks...Just some random thoughts

yea, There are always options. I think the first step is getting WishIcaughtmore to get into contact with all the other districts and their coaches. I don't mind setting up a DFW High School Kayak Tournament Trail once we get it all laid out.

I think this is a great idea! Mariner Sails is interested in helping in any way we can. I am happy to help on the concept end and/or wait until you have flushed out your plan and help with implementation and sponsorship as we are able. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance and I wish you the best in your effort!

Sincerely Aris

As a captain for my son's HS bass team I hated seeing kids not get a ride...

Okay, I discussed with Aris @ Mariner Sails over lunch and he is fully on board. We will need to get everyone together and put some things down on paper and see what each School's district needs and requirements are.
