I plan on renting a kayak (Hobie Pro Angler 12) next week as long as the weather cooperates. Unless I end up not liking the PA12 for some reason, this is the kayak I plan on buying. Any advice for my first time out? I've only rented cheaper yaks at state parks before but never fished from one. I will obviously be renting a PFD as well. I plan on taking only 1 rod, and a few lures that will fit in a 3600 box. I don't really care if I catch anything. I mainly just want to get a feel for the yak, launching, loading, and fishing from it. I currently only bank fish for Large Mouth Bass. I'd venture to guess that this will be 98% of what I continue to fish for.
I'm in Tomball and plan on heading to one of the following lakes unless anyone has something within in the same driving distance they'd recommend for a first time out:
Bear Branch
Marshall Lake
Lake Woodlands
Lake Raven
Stubblefield Recreation Area
BJ's or Ponderosa Marina.

Again, just looking for advice for my first time out, and pro's/con's to hitting any of those locations. Not really concerned with how good the fishing is. I can figure that out later.

Like you are planning my first time out in the kayak I only brought one rod with me. That was a good plan until the first fish I caught broke the rod. Recommend taking at least 2 rods just in case.

I'd recommend staying out of stumpy areas with that Mirage Drive for your first trip; Raven or Lake Woodlands would probably be good choices. Good luck!
