I have a huge sweet tooth. About two weeks ago, I decided to start cutting the candy and deserts. It's made a big difference in my energy level. Not getting tired in the afternoon any more. It's a challenge cutting sugar from your diet and I'm not reading every label, but cutting ice cream, cake and chocolate has made a difference for me. I had already cut out sodas a few years ago, but still drink one or two Diet Cokes a week.
Anyone else trying to cut back on their sugar intake?

Good on ya J. P. But go ahead and drink real Pepsi. Those diet drinks are not at all good for you.

If you are trying to cut sugar from your diet, sodas must go. Most cans of soda have the equivalent of eight teaspoons of granulated white sugar. I'll eventually cut Diet Sodas, but one a week isn't going to hurt me. Right now I'm trying to cut all the heavy sugar items out of my diet, like the desert type foods. I'll crack down on it harder down the road.

You got this, JP......shooga is da debil!
I've got to where I rarely drink diet pop at all. I'm like you, I drink one or maybe two a week, and that's the little small bottle. Gotta have a fix of Diet Coke at least once a week. Good luck!

I have cut it completely, due to the ol type 2 diagnosis in october. I have a tremendous sweet tooth. Not only have i cut the sweets i am reading labels and have cut sugar from just about everything. Pasta/pizza sauce, ketchup, etc... I have also gone to a very low carb intake, no pasta, rice, taters, white breads. Its tough but doable. I will admit without the incentive of the diabetes i wouldnt be as strong willed.
I consume a lot of Adkins products which are low to no sugar and low carb, but still sweet and it calms my desire for sweets. I eat about 4 large salads a week for dinner, red wine/olive oil dressing only. There are low carb tortillas that taste very much like regular ones and i consume those almost daily stuffed with something.
Ive lost about 10 pounds since october and have lowered my blood sugar readings to near normal. The real benefit has been how i feel which is way better. My head is clearer and im more mentally sharp and i notice my mood is overall more upbeat. I wish i could get rid of the arthritis

I just woke up one day and decided I needed to cut down the sweets. I haven't had any ice cream, candy or cake since that day. Been slowing down on the carbs, but still eating them daily.

Cutting "out" sugar is the hardest workout I've ever done. I'm not good at it.

I notice I go on sugar binge if I cut out alcohol. Balance is a fickle Bitch!

My problem I've had for a long time is over-eating desserts. I can't just sit down and eat one normal piece of cake, reg size bowl of ice cream, etc, etc....I've got to get two or maybe even three. That's a problem. I will admit I have an eating disorder. Once you get the sugar in your system, it's like a drug. You crave it more and more. Over the holidays, I went to bed so full many a nights that I absolutely felt like popping. That's pretty sad that a person has to go to bed to get relief because he's too full to sit in a chair. He has to lay down and even out the barrel on his belly...disgusting!
I'm now on a road to recovery. Accountability has played a big role for me. Come join my accountability thread if you so desire. Anyone is welcome!

I'll eat the rest of the candy I have, most of which came between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but I will taper off afterwards. I am NOT throwing it out. I exercise a lot, and burn it up, but if I didn't eat so much of it, I'd rip quicker and more, but at least I burn it up.
Addendum: I mentioned in another topic that I do not count calories. I don't know if I could count that high!
...doh!

I am convinced Chick-Fil-A has sugar in the breading of their patties. I won't eat there anymore...I don't eat a lot of carbs, and have cut down my sweet tea to almost completely unsweet. I was at 1/2 and 1/2 for a long time....now I can drink a 2 qt thing of tea with only 1/4 cup of sugar...and that's only on rare occasions...more often than not, I don't have sugar in my tea at all...

Yes Chic Fil A uses powdered sugar in their breading. We use the knock of recipe for our boys homemade chicken strips. Right down to buttermilk soak with pickle juice.

That's just sad...the last thing our society needs is more sugar in food. Heck, they even add it to canned tomatoes....WTH? You have to read the labels.

I am cutting out my sweet tea too. For one, it gets my stomach sour after drinking it from lunch on.....and second, in East Texas they put a 5lb bag in a canister to sweeten it.....way too much to process.
I don't eat too many sweets.
One that you need to watch out for is Peanut Butter. Natural doesn't mean NO SUGAR. It needs to be peanuts ONLY....no oil added or sugars of any kind. Very misleading.
