I have never been good at off shore fishing so that is what I am dedicating this year to. I upgraded my graphs on the bow and the console and finally got out on the water for a little while yesterday. I could see the fish on the graphs but I just couldn't get them to bite. I was out for about 3-3.5 hours before I gave up and went shallow for an hour till I had to leave. My son and I both came up empty in the deep. I was hoping to get some incite into what you guys typically use for Bass in the 20-25 FOW range. Any suggestions on lures, line, presentation, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Between the 2 of us we used everything (he changes lures a lot more than I do)- deep cranks (12-15ft drivers), drop shots, spoons, jigs, c-rigs, etc.

It depends on if the fish were active, on the bottom or suspended. Did you change your casting angle, were you shallow throwing deep, or deep throwing shallow? Sometimes you have to circle all the way around the school before you can get them to bite. Football jigs, c-rigs and deep cranks (you need deeper, throw an 8xd or 10xd, need to be able to make bottom contact ) should be all you need to get bit. For deep cranking, the longer the cast and the lighter the line the bait will go deeper.

Can't go wrong dragging a Carolina rig around with a 1oz weight, 3ft leader and a baby brushhog, finesse worm, or fluke. You'll catch em eventually

Drop shot--15lb super slick braid to 10lb fluoro. 1/4 to 1/2 oz weight depending on wind Deep crank--15lb super slick braid to 12lb Pline CXX Spoon--30lb regular power pro braid to 17lb Pline CXX Swim Jig or heavy cover jig-at least 1/2oz same lines as spoon
The braid mainline gives me added sensitivity and easier hook sets at those depths/distances
I like crig up to about 20ft, but fishing from a light kayak in deep water; you don't have a lot of leverage.

I think this holds true for swimbait, rip baits and cranks more than bottom contact fishing. It's usually the most uncomfortable angle, too

We were all over the place and at every angle. We definitely need some deeper cranks but the fish we were seeing were about 5 feet off the bottom. We were throwing mainly shallow to deep, but again we were all over the place due to the wind. I am going to make the wife go next time so she can see that I have to get an Ultrex, it's not just something I want.

Football Jigs and C rigs are nice because you can feel everything down there. Thats how I got started then I got into cranks and drop shot. Just be patient and put in the time and it pays off big time!

Taking the wife will defiantly help get the kitchen clearance for the new trolling motor.

About the only thing I use that deep is a Carolina rigged worm or a deep diving crankbait. Maybe drag a jig on occassion. Most of my fishing is 15 feet or less.
