Yep...posting this in our section too! After all haven't been able to post anything lately, and this was the most fun I've had fishing in a long time. This will probably be my last post till I get back from ATC...with any luck, I'll have fish pictures from there, too!

Anyway...

Last week I went Hybrid fishing with Steve Barlowe, and we HAULED. Just now able to post the pictures here now that TFF is back up!

We literally caught several dozen hybrids between us, with Steve catching two or three dozen, and me catching probably 12-15 hybrids or so, and the biggest fish of the night.

...yeah...we stopped counting around 6 each.

We also caught TONS of BIG sandies and yellows. ( Average sandy was about 2lbs. )

Lots of hybrids under 3lbs, and a lot over that, with a bunch in the 3-6lb range, and my big fish of the night at just a little under 8lbs.

Here's a few pics.

A couple of Steves, as he was catching so many we didn't bother with many photos:

And some of my bigger hybrids:

Starless,

The next to the last picture looks like a striper to me. It has much more distinct unbroken lines and a leaner body then the hybrids. You may have gained another for your multi-species contest and not even realized it.

Good fishing and they are a ball, aren't they?

Kevin

Thanks Paul! That was what I was out doing when I missed your call lol. Sorry I didn't get back to you, we didn't even get off the water until after 4 am cause we were catching so many fish!

Thanks Kevin! Yes, Hybrids are awesome fish. A very different fight from a carp, but definitely in the same fighting class!

Also, I'm pretty sure it was a hybrid.

It FOUGHT like a hybrid lol. Some of the lines were broken up, it had the thickness and top to bottom broadness of a hybrid....

Also...no stripers have ever been stocked in that lake, but they stock hybrids every year lol....so I'm pretty sure it was a hybrid lol.

There is a striper record, but dont think they've been caught in a long time, and not sure how they got there in the first place lol.

Zach and I went back to the same place on Cedar Creek and hauled again on Friday. We caught LOTS of fish, including a 7-7 and an 8.71 pound Hybrid. That's just 5 ounces shy of being a new TX state Hybrid record for a fly rod. I had the fish weighed at the BassPro in Garland, and it's now in their quarantine tank for 30 days. I got a call from the guy today and he said she's still in good shape. So by this time next month, she should be in the main tank.

Heard about it from Zach. Awesome, Steve, awesome!

You'll get that record yet!

Let's hope so. That last one is being filed as the Lake Record for a Fly, it beat the previous one by over a pound. It used to belong to Christian, we have a friendly little competition to see who beats the state record first.

Nice fish guys. I'll be going out to richland chambers next weekend and hope to catch some. How heavy of line should I use? I've got some 10# spider wire I was thinking of puttin on.

Awesome! Those are some fightin' fish for sure, and there's nothin' like the aggressive nature. Nice fish!

8 or 10 pound test should be fine, especially if you're fishing open water. I think Justin was even using 6 pound for some that he caught.

Bj, I caught all of my fish save one of the smaller ones on 6 pound test.

So all the pictured fish that I caught above including the near 8lber were caught on 6lb test.

Just keep your drag set right, you'll be fine. That's what makes it so fun!

Me too! I'll be doing some carping this weekend I think. Rain is ok, but hopefully no thunder.

Good luck with the hybrids!
