my vote is Blazing saddles for comedy and Gunfight at OK Corral for typical western.....if this thread was on the moderators forum at BBC,the winner would be "broke back mountain"......

Lot of good modern westerns, but there were some good oldies. Ballad of Cable Hogue, Shane, and High Noon all were first rate. I liked True Grit, but I think I liked the recent remake better.

There are so many I've never seen, but of the ones I can remember, I'll go "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly."
Addendum: I hear "Bone Tomahawk" was really good, but I have not seen it.
Addendum II: "The Hateful Eight" was dreadful.

I stayed at a really nice best western in flagstaff for 3 days, had to wait out a blizzard and road closures.
