G6 may not have had the best following, lots of other great Shimano offerings around that price range or a little more. What applications will the reel be used for?

If the main purpose will be bottom contact, I would look into a 7 or even a 8 gear reel. Spinner baits you can use 7 or 6. The Curado 200I is a good reel for the money, and price goes up from there.

I was just wondering over all how it is. The one I got is a 6:5:1 so it's a good all around reel. I was wondering about durability, smoothness etc.

It is a "decent" reel, some like it some don't.

I have a lot of Shimano reels but never bought one of the G series because of all the negative comments I read about them. I like the E series the best. I have a few of the I series and some of them are noisy so you have to oil the brakes.
Lews are fantastic reels for the money as are Daiwa reels.

They are not much different from the e7 reels. Only thing I know of is the drag star is plastic but who cares if its plastic. Ive been into the e7's and g7's plenty of times to clean and oil and they are pretty much the same reel. Very good reels. I would spend the same money on the g7 as I would the e7

I have a few of the G series and actually like them a lot. They have a much wider spool than the new curados and as such I like them for cranking and longer casts. I've used one for jig fishing and bottom bait stuff and never had a serious issue with it but, I prefer the stiffer body on the I series for serious workhorse applications.
