As most of you know already from my videos I fish Lake Somerville often and what I'm seeing so far this year is nothing short of phenomenal. Crappie and largemouth bass have been in most of the creeks since the floods. But the whitebass fishing will kick into high gear with the rise in the creeks from this rain we are currently receiving.

For the kayaker willing to make the journey up into the Yegua is the possibility that they will find some of the best freshwater fishing anywhere anytime. If you are looking to expand your kayak fishing adventures or have ever thought of fishing the Yegua NOW IS THE TIME!

Unfortunately only the boat ramp at the Nails Creek Unit of Lake Somerville State Park is open. The rest of the park suffered so much flood damage that it is not possible to open much of it in the near future. The closest camping is all the way down the lake at Yegua Creek Park, Overlook or Welch Park or the nearest hotel/motel accommodations are in Giddings/Burton/Brenham.

Give the creek a week after the rains stop to clear up a little and make the journey to the creek. I am pretty confident you will find and catch a mixed stringer of crappie, Largemouth, catfish & whitebass and maybe a personal best of any of these four fish.

I can't say for sure when but I'll be kayaking up the Yegua many times this season and taking with me anyone with a yak and paddle! LETS GO FISH!
