Saturday was to be my day to launch the Kayak at Nails Creek, but sleeping and laziness got the better of me. So I took the fly rod and headed to the pond and creek to do some fishing and hiking. The creek bite was slow, but managed to catch a buffalo carp....at least that is what I think it is... Honestly, never landed one of these on the creek. The fishing didn't pick up so I took my rod and homemade fly over to the pond to see if the fish were a little more receptive. The bream and the small bass were definitely up for taking the bait. I lost my small white fly, but will definitely be tying some more in in the near future. Landed several small bream and lost two small bass. I don't think I could of asked for a nicer evening alone.

Gaspergou, otherwise known as freshwater black drum. Heck of an underrated fish IMO.

Thank you for the ID! First one I've ever pulled out from the creek.

Fantastic! Guess I need to add that to my species wish list! I found a spot way out near me that provides a little bit of access to Cypress Creek.

Morning rain around here will shut down the creek for a while. Couple of parks around here in Cypress with access to the creek. I'm lucky to have the house within walking distance of the creek. Fishing is hit or miss. I wear waders when I'm in the water. Snakes and other objects tend to rear their heads in the area. Usually the deep holes, 3-4 foot of water will hold some fish. Spent this morning tying up some flies. Work great just about anywhere I've fished. Good way to spend a rainy Sunday morning.

Nice pictures and cool looking flies. A gaspergou was my first river fish on a fly. Caught it last September in the Basque River near Clifton. A really cool fish.
