How's the weight distribution? More details on your rig?
You should be able to play around with it and get it to plane without porpoising.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

By what your calling a "bounce" I can only assume it is what's better known as porpoising. This is caused by an over-trimmed condition. The motor tries to pull the bow up and when it reaches its max the bow falls back down because the prop and lower are loosing bite on the water. Try adjusting the motor down a little at a time and see what happens.

Set your motor deeper. Or find a prop that will bite better? I've had some John boats that would flat out run.

There are three things that can be causing that.
1. Weight distribution - small boats a very sensitive to how the weight is place throughout the boat. Might need more weight up front.
2. Too much trim - make sure your engine is tucked as far in as possible. If it is see number one.
3. Possibly propped wrong - I doubt this is the case but it is possible. Some props cause that problem but usually in bigger boats.

flat bottom boats don't act well with trim. A 6inch plate and some cheap minor prop work will fix that problem. Ive been working with a few duck hunters from arkansas and south Louisiana to remedy a few problems on those boats. ALso been doing a drag prop for a 40hp duck boat here and there.
