Found crappie and bass shallow on Sunday from Lloyd Park. caught 5 nice keepers and only a few throwbacks in a couple hours. all caught in 1-3 ft of water in the back of coves adjacent to creek channels. all caught on red/green hollow tube jigs 1/8 oz jig head tipped with crappie nibble. water was murky but the fish were active. none of the fish had eggs so i'm guessing these are the males starting to make spawning beds. also caught 3 bass on the same rig. looks like everything is moving shallow.

Ever do any good on the south side by the state park. I have a state park pass and can be there in 10 minutes out of the driveway. So it's reall convenient to fish that side, however, no ones ever told me they have done well on that side.
Any suggestions or should I just make the trip to the other side?

Any suggestions or should I just make the trip to the other side? i have fished in the state park. i would take the same approach, look for crappie shallow in the coves. the first couple coves next to the dam especially should be good spawning areas. there is also an indoor/outdoor marina.

We've found some right at the State Park marina. I was told that the H20 is a bit muddier due to the piss in the bucket last nite that the guy couldn't get a hit this morning. Now that can change by afternoon so don't be overly alarm. Good luck!

Me and Cecil went yesterday, started at daylight and fished till 10:30. Caught one Joe Pool special 9" at the bridge. But the bite at the bridge started heating up, lost two at the boat and two in the brush, then wind blew us off the bridge. Also fished alot of shallow areas with no takers except one black bass Cecil caught on jig and bobber. Don't ignore the bridges either. Highest water temp we found was 62 in the shallows.

Fished JP yesterday from 1 pm to 6 pm - fished the Britton leg both below and above the bridge in water depths varying from 1 foot to 20 foot and only caught one male crappie in 4 ft of murky water. Hammered the bass though in 1-2 ft on minnows under slip bobber. Bass fisherman followed me throwing crank bait and didn't get a bite while my four year old daughter caught seven bass on Snoopy Rod - he was laughing at her "technique" of dropping the line straight down and yelling when the bobber went under. Caught one 15+ pound catfish in two foot of water which proceeded to snap a Berkeley bass rod i got for Christmas.
Going back Thursday to my spawn spots to see if the females are going to follow the male scouts soon (weather allowing).
Good fishing and safe boating to all,
Doc

old salt dog,
I went this morning and caught a few in the shallows early and then moved to the trees around 11:00 and started getting more bites and more hung up. It's always fun though, when you free a snag and find a crappie on the other end.
You were right, red and green seem to be the color of choice. I got several bites off a 1/8 hair jig. I tried different colors yesterday afternoon with no success. Now I just have to find more of them.
Thanks for advice. It got me enough for supper tonight.
