I wanted to give a brief opinion on my ultrex. I don't have a lot of experience using TM. I had a fortrex before I used about 5 times. Quick thoughts- it's awesome for me. Spot lock worked great. Fishing a submerged bridge I was able to lock on top of the drop off. No getting blown around when landing a fish or tying on a new lure. Not sure of the actual feature name but it has a sort of cruise control. Set a speed and direction and it goes. You can adjust on the fly. I liked how it reacted better than the fortrex. It had a little more noise but I wouldn't trade it in for that. That would be my only complaint.

I have an odd question. Say you find yourself in a deep hydrilla bed or your hull hits bottom. Is it possible with these electric drive motors to pull the motor up and run it just on the surface of the water until you get out of trouble? You guys know what I'm talking about? That "oh sh**" moment when you pull the cord to unlock it from the bracket, lift the motor up enough just to skim the top to get out of weeds or off a stump.

Not like you can with what you have.

Instead of the rope lift I've used my hand to lift the head, tilt it and turn whichever way needed, and used the remote to power it.

Thanks for the update GB, you're one of the 1st here to give a on the water review.... I'm really interested in the spot lock, was there much wind, how far would you say it allowed your boat to float off before reacting to get back on spot?
Thanks!

You fellas are better than me. Last time I tried it, I boogered up the prop pretty good. I couldn't keep it consistently where I wanted to like I could with the old rope style.

Wind varied and so did the cover that blocked it. The windiest was about 12mph maybe 15 at some points. It held well. When a boat flew by and the wake pushed us off it didn't go far before we were back. I fished on a boat with the terrova (sp ) and that thing was junk compared to this. As far as floating off- I wouldn't say more than 18" at most when it was pushed hard. In the lighter wind 6"? I fished a submerged bridge at the end of the day for crappie. Top of bridge is 5fow and the bottom is 25fow. I locked on the edge of the bridge and fished the drop off. It held me there. Let's say there was no spot lock. The pedal steering I personally liked it better than my Fortrex. Responded better and felt easier to "navigate". It just made the motor noise which is expected, and I would take that trade off for all its other features.

Thanks for the update. I would be curious to see how it compares to the xi5 for holding on a spot.
