From what I've heard, the west, north west parts are best. No idea why one side would be better, but some people swear by it???

I'm slowly converting from catfishing to crappie since my buddy with a boat loves it. Not too knowledgeable, but lurk here daily and pick up what I can. Hope you can get a bonafied crappie guy to answer as I'm curious also.

These waters warm up quicker throughout the day, crappie are more apt to be shallow in these water's right now cause it is approaching time for the spawn.

Thats usually the 1st spot to warm, and thats their interstate, but they will get on all sides eventually if the cover is right. I'm definatley no expert on crappie. I fair weather them during the spawn, cause I live on the lake and I like eating them and enjoy the techniques used to catch them this time of year. My .02 worth is find shadey boat houses with brush or find creeks that are close to large flat areas with grass, stumps or laydowns, in 2-4ft of water. I know nothing of Sommerville so can't help there, but just go and experiment till you find some, thats killer fun.

Slip bobbers with crappie jigs or minnows.

Water temp is the key for the spawn. The NW areas warm up quicker because they receive the most sun in the warmest part of the day. This applies to the early season(now).
They will spawn in all areas as the water temp dictates, provided the area has the key ingrediates of habitat.

look for them in the back of coves that are adjacent to deep water or creek channels. they will concentrated around wood and flooded grass in the shallows. keep in mind that they need a firm bottom to make their nest.

Crappie are very adaptive and will spawn somewhere no matter the conditions. They may prefer hard bottoms but will spawn in lakes that have soft mud bottoms. They will spawn in treetops and on limbs in deep water at times. Their eggs are sticky and will attach to almost everything including birds legs. That's why almost all water bodies have Crappie in them even if never stocked there.

They don't have to make a nest like Bass do and prefer to lay the eggs in thick brush if possible. The eggs stick to the brush and are fertalized there by the males.

So the answer is, there is no single answer. Just fish around calm shallow water with flooded grass or weeds or on hard rocky banks. You will find crappie soon.

The reason the north shorelines warm faster is the angle of the sun. Has nothing to do with the direction of the river flow.

There will be fish on the south side too, just not first.

What Ernest said, particularly the part of why the N banks warm faster than the S banks in Spring/Fall.

Sun's "zenith" angle is nearly 90 degrees (straight up) June 22nd, that's why Summer days are the longest. Then, since we're in the Northern Hemisphere, it begins to tilt on an angle back to the south (forgot exactly how much) until just before Christmas (December 22nd) at it's lowest point.

But they had to change CDT and make it longer, so that puts a buzz into everything.

Just thought I'd throw that in there.

Re OldSaltDawg's "To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public"

Well, all I can say is that old Teddy never had to put up with the Democrats of today and their traitorous ways...

Of course, in Teddy's day, he'd have raised up his Winchester and shot them down like dogs...

Then... ... Now...... Thus...
